Repair and re-point brickwork to historic walls
Volunteer Task Description
Volunteers are required to assist with the restoration of Stourport Canal Basins by repairing and re-pointing the historic walls of the lower basin area. The task requires volunteers to rake out damaged mortar and refill the joints with fresh lime mortar. A conservation expert will provide full training into the background and use of lime mortar giving all volunteers the necessary skills and equipment required to carry out the task.
Volunteer Person Specification
Volunteers skilled in this type of work would be advantageous however no skills or qualifications are required as full training will be given. Due to the manual nature of the task, volunteers are required to possess a reasonable level of physical ability. The work will not take place close to the water edge and will be carried out from head height to ground level. Life jackets and safety equipment will be provided where necessary.
Commitment Required
The task will take place over three separate weeks. There will be a training course on the first day of each week. Volunteers must attend a full training session and be prepared to commit to at least four days over the three separate weeks. We will identify specific dates to deliver this task in line with the restoration works and required number of volunteers.
