Local Businesses Save Stourport “Pirate Boat”
Local people and businesses have worked together to safeguard the future of “The Ship of Fools”, a highly decorated boat which was originally developed for use as part of The Flow Festival in 2008, which celebrated the end of the award winning British Waterways project  the “Restoration of Stourport Canal Basins”. For several years the boat lay forgotten in a local boat yard but was discovered earlier this year and brought to the canal basins, transformed into a “Pirate Boat” and used as part of a pirate display by Stourport Yacht Club as part of the Stourport Canal Basins Pirate Weekend.

When the boat was discovered earlier this year it was about to be destroyed but thanks to the kind support of Stourport Yacht Club, Clearview Enterprises and Sirius Marine Services the boat has now been saved for future events.

“We are so grateful to everyone who has helped to save the Pirate Boat for future Stourport events”, said Liz Sheerin of Stourport Forward, “to Stourport Yacht Club, who transported the boat to and from the canal basins and operated the boat at the Pirate Weekend, to Sirius Marine Services, who provided their crane free of charge to lift the boat in and out of the river, to Mike Thompson for looking after the boat over the summer and to Clearview Enterprises who have agreed to continue to store the boat free of charge at their yard so that it can be safeguarded and used for future Stourport events. Thanks to their kindness we can now start planning a bigger, better Pirate Weekend for Stourport next year.”
