The Flow Festival
The Flow Festival is a large scale weekend event taking place on 11th, 12th and 13th July 2008 to celebrate the completion of the Stourport Basin Restoration Project.
Stourport Basins are a unique undiscovered asset to Stourport and to celebrate the restoration and to launch the site as a tourist destination, British Waterways have commissioned Spiral, a performance company to create and produce a site specific show to take place in and around the Basins. If you are a community group connected to Stourport, we would like to invite you to be part of the show…
Spiral is a collective of creative people from England and Spain made up of artists, directors, designers, musicians and actors. They have extensive expertise in producing and performing original site-specific performances in unique venues and are particularly inspired by engaging local communities in the process. Spiral has proposed to create Flow; a large scale, weekend, family festival inviting Stourport and its communities to join us in celebrating the restoration and launching the Basins as a tourist destination and place for events. The 3 day festival will encompass performances, processions, music, food and craft markets, guided historical tours, street entertainers and much more. The highlight and focal point of the weekend festival will be an innovative site specific performance. The performance will be written and performed by Spiral with help and support from the people and communities of Stourport. www.tallerspiral.com
Community Involvement
Spiral sees the involvement of the local community as crucial to the success of the event. They want to include and work with the many groups and individuals connected to Stourport and the immediate area in the planning and preparation phases and incorporate them and their work into the final performance.
Flow Workshops
During April, May & June 2008 Spiral will facilitate and deliver interactive workshops with all groups who would like to be part of the Flow Festival celebrations and will tailor them to suit the talents, skills and time commitments of each group. The workshops will be connected in some way to the final performance piece and each group will work closely with professional artists from Spiral to create the necessary props, materials and costumes which will be used by them in the finale. Spiral would ideally like to work with each group during April, May or June. If this is not possible we can discuss alternative arrangements.
